The Queen's Own Rifles of Canada - 3rd Battalion (Toronto Regiment) - Canadian Expeditionary Force - Sint-Juliaan - 04/06/2012
Vertegenwoordigers van The Queen's Own Rifles of Canada - 3rd Battalion (Toronto Regiment) - Canadian Expeditionary Force onthulden in de Wijngaardstraat een nieuwe gedenksteen ter nagedachtenis van de Canadese militairen die hier vochten tijdens de morgen volgend op de eerste gasaanval van 22 april 1915.
The dedication took take place on Monday, 4 June at 2 p.m. on Wijngaardstraat, approximately 500 metres north of N313, west of Sint-Juliaan, and south of the current monument to Kitchener's Wood (500 53'1.29"N, 2°55'22.00"E).
As Commanding Officer of one of the perpetuating regiments of the 3rd Battalion, Lieutenant
Colonel Peter St. Denis, MSC, CD, laid a wreath on behalf of The Queen's Own Ritfles of
Canada, The Governor General 's Horse Guards, and The Royal Regiment of Canada, all active
units within the Canadian Forces.

De tweede slag van leper
Op 22 april 1915, lanceerden de Duitsers in deze streek de eerste gasaanval van WO I.
Het 3de Bataljon (Toronto Regiment), het Canadese Expeditieleger werd naar voor gestuurd om de opening tussen Kitchener's Wood en het dorp St. Juliaan te helpen vullen. De linie bleef
standhouden echter met een hoge kost; 19 officieren en 460 andere gerankten sneuvelden,
raakten gewond of werden gevangen genomen.
We zullen hen herinneren.
The Second Battle of Ypres
On 22 April 1915, the Germans launched the first major gas attack of WWl in this vicinity.
The 3rd Battalion (Toronto Regiment), Canadian Expeditionary Force was rushed forward to
help fill the gap between Kitchener's Wood and the village of St. Julien. The line was held, but
at a tremendous cost of 19 officers and 460 other ranks killed, wounded or captured.
