Zoals iedere Ieperling al ondertussen weet, treedt burgemeester Luc Dehaene in 2013 af en wordt opgevolgd door Yves Leterme, die door zijn functie als mandaat bij de OESO (die pas in 2015 afgelopen zal worden), de functie wordt ingenomen door Jan Durnez voor de komende twee jaar. Tijdens de avond van 31 december 2012, nam de burgemeester deel aan de Last Post voor de laatste keer als burgemeester. Na de plechtigheid bedankte hij de klaroenblazers voor het blazen van de Last Post tijdens zijn termijn als burgemeester. Tijdens die Last Post avond werd niet alleen de laatste Last Post geblazen voor het jaar 2012, maar vond er ook een onthulling plaats van iets dat uit Nieuw-Zeeland over werd gebracht. De Putara tritonschelp is een belangrijk instrument voor de Maori bevolking. Het dorpshoofd nam het iedere keer mee wanneer hij het dorp verliet. Tijdens Maori vergaderingen, werden de voorvaderen ermee opgeroepen. De bedoeling was dat er op deze hoorn werd geblazen als eresaluut aan alle gesneuvelde Maori's in de Ieperboog. Aftredend burgemeester Luc Dehaene, schepen Frans Lignel en de gemeente Ieper, onthulden de Putara die tijdens het bezoek in Nieuw-Zeeland werd geschonken aan de gemeente (klaroenblazer Raf Decombel nam de donatie aan) door de Maori bevolking in de stad Hamilton. Tijdens die inhuldiging werd bekend gemaakt dat de Putara wordt opgenomen door het In Flanders Fields Museum. Maar voor dit gebeurt, blies klaroenblazer Raf Decombel op de Putara zodat de wens werd vervuld als eresaluut aan alle Maori's die tijdens de oorlog in de Ieperboog sneuvelden. Dit is het bewijs dat - ondanks het feesten - er op kerstavond en oudejaarsavond toch nog speciale gebeurtenissen kunnen plaats vinden tijdens de Last Post.
As every citizen of Ypres already knows, Mayor Luc Dehaene retires in 2013 as Mayor and will be succeeded by Yves Leterme, but by his position as a mandate to the OECD (which ends in 2015), the function will be taken by Jan Durnez for the next two years. During the Last Post of December 31, 2012, the mayor attended the Last Post for the last time as mayor. After the ceremony he thanked the buglers for sounding the Last Post during his term as mayor.
During the event it was not just the Last Post wich was sounded for the last time for the year 2012, but there was also an unveiled gift from New Zealand. The Putara triton shell is an important instrument for the Moari population. The village chief took it every time with him when he left the village. During the Maori meetings, the ancestors were called by blowing on the shell. The intention was that this horn was blown under the Menin Gate as a tribute to all fallen Maoris in the Ypres Salient. Retiring Mayor Luc Dehaene, Schepen Frans Lignel and the town of Ypres, revealed the Putara. The Putara was donated to bugler Raf Decombel during the visit in New Zealand by the Maori population in the city of Hamilton. During the inauguration it has been announced that the In Flanders Fields Museum will receive the Putara tironshell. But before this happened, bugler Raf Decombel blew on the Putara so the wish was granted as a tribute to all fallen Maori during the war in the Ypres Salient. This is proof that - despite the celebrations - there on Christmas Eve and on New Year's Eve still special events can take place during the Last Post under the Menin Gate.

Klaroenblazer Raf Decombel brengt het gewenste eresaluut aan alle gevallen Maori's tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog in de Ieperboog. Het tafereel was zeer bijzonder en ontroerend.
