Maandelijkse herdenking Hedd Wyn - Boezinge - 03/06/2013
Iedere eerste maandag van de maand, wordt bij de gedenkplaat voor de Welsche dichter Hedd Wyn een kleine Last Post gehouden. Tegenover de Last Post van de Menenpoort in Ieper, trekt deze herdenking weinig volk aan. De meesten bestaan uit lokale bevolking die maandelijks aanwezig zijn. In het café rechtover, De Sportman, wordt uitsluitend tijdens iedere herdenking een kleine maar boeiende tentoonstelling gehouden in het café zelf. Deze kan - op aanvraag - op een ander moment bezocht worden dan tijdens de herdenking zelf. Er wordt eerst lekker gekletst en gedronken in het cafe, nadien regelt de lokale politie het verkeer en uiteindelijk vindt om 19.00 de Last Post plaats.
Tijdens de editie van juni 2013 werd niet alleen Hedd Wyn herdacht, maar ook Private Albert John Hunt van de 70th company Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), die op 7 juni 1917 sneuvelde aan de Ieperboog, tijdens de Mijnenslag van Mesen.
Every first Monday of the month, at the remembrance plaque of the Welsh poet Hedd Wyn, a small Last Post ceremony takes place. Opposite the Last Post of the Menin Gate in Ypres, the memorial attracts only a few people. Most consist of locals who are present monthly. In the pub on the other side of the street, De Sportman, a small but fascinating exhibition takes place in the pub itself. It can only be visited during the ceremony event or on request. After visiting the pub, the local police holds traffic and the Last Post starts at 19:00.
During the edition of May 2013 it was not only Hedd Wyn who was commemorated, but also Private Albert John Hunt from the 70th Company Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), who died on June 7, 1917 on the Ypres Salient during the Battle of Messines Ridge during the attack on the hills around Hill 60.

Over Hedd Wyn
Hedd Wyn was het pseudoniem voor Ellis Humphrey Evans en werd geboren op 13 januari 1887 in het Welshe Trawsfynydd in Meirionydd in North Wales. Hij nam deel aan poëziewedstrijden vanaf 1906 en kreeg zo in 1910 zijn pseudoniem Hedd Wyn, wat "'Lichtende Vrede" betekende. In 1915 nam hij deel aan zijn eerste nationale poëziewedstrijd. Ondertussen werd de Wales betrokken geraakt in de Grote Oorlog en melde heel wat landgenoten zich vrijwillig aan, Hedd Wyn niet. Nadat hij deel nam aan de wedstrijd van september 1917, melde hij zichzelf aan na een oproepingsbevel en werd toegewezen aan de 15de bataljon 'Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Die veroverden tijdens de Slag om Pilkem Ridge op 31 juli 1917 de heuvel en rukte vervolgens op richting het kruispunt "Hagebos", gekend op de Britse stafkaarten als "Iron Cross". Nabij dit kruispunt werd de Welshe dichter dodelijk gewond op diezelfde dag. Hij werd begraven op de Artillery Wood Cemetery te Boezinge, niet ver vandaan waar Francis Edward Ledwidge, een Ierse dichter, op dezelfde dag sneuvelde en ook op het Artillery Wood Cemetery werd begraven. Hedd Wyn werd een nationale legende nadat hij de nationale poëziewedstrijd won, en hierbij de Zetel (dat je kan vinden in de cafe) kreeg als prijs. In zijn geboorteplaats werd een standbeeld onthuld door zijn moeder in 1923. Naar aanleiding van het 75st verjaardag van zijn dood, werd deze gedenkplaat onthuld op het kruispunt waar hij sneuvelde. Sinds enkele jaren, werd deze maandelijkse herdenking gehouden. Ondertussen zijn er plannen voor een groot monument, duidelijk werd vermeld tijdens de plechtigheid dat dit pas mogelijk kan gemaakt worden wanneer de financiële stappen kan gewonnen worden.

Hedd Wyn was the pseudonym for the Welsh poet Ellis Humphrey Evans and was born on January 13, 1887 in Trawsfynydd in Meirionydd in North Wales. He took part in poetry competitions from 1906 and earns the name Hedd Wyn in 1910, what means "Shining Peace". In 1915 he took part in his first national poetry contest. In his birthplace, a statue was unveiled by his mother in 1923. On the celebration of the 75st anniversary of his death, the plaque unveiled at the intersection where he was killed. For several years, this monthly ceremony took place. Meanwhile, there are plans for a large memorial, clearly stated during the ceremony and can only be made when the financial steps can be won.

Over Private Albert John Hunt (serienummer: 31232)
Albert was de zoon van Richard en Jane Hunt. Hij voegde zich toe in het leger in het inschrijvingsbureau in Ammanford in de South Wales Borderers. Hij werd later getransformeerd naar het 70th Company, Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), onderdeel van de 23th Divisie, die in Frankrijk bevond sinds december 1915, en zagen hgun eerste gevecht tijdens de Slag om Albert, waar zij Contalmaison veroverden. Later namen ze deel aan de Slag om Bazentin, de Slag om Pozieres, de Slag om Flers-Courcelette, de Slag om Morval en de Slag om Le Transloy waar zij Le Sars veroverden. About Private Albert John Hunt (serial number 31232)
Albert was the son of Richard and Jane Hunt, of 32, Park Terrace, Pantyffynon. He enlisted at Ammanford into the South Wales Borderes. He later transferred to the 70th Company, Machine Gun Corps (Infantry), attached to the 23nd Division, wich have been in France since December 1915, and saw their first major action at the Battle of Albert, where they captured Contalmaison. And then fought at the Battle of Bazentin, the Battle of Pozieres, the Battle of Flers-Courcelette, the Battle of Morval and the Battle of Le Transloy, where they captured Le Sars. In May 1917, they transfered to the Ypres Salient and join the attack on the Messines Ridge during the Battle of Messines Ridge, wich took place between June 7 and June 14, 1917. On the first day, the day wich the earth have a earth shake (June 7), Albert John Hunt was killed in action. Possible around Hill 60. His bodie never been found and his name is listed on Panel 56 on the Menin Gate Memorial. He was only 20 years old.

De herdenking / The Remembrance Ceremony
De herdenking begon met een welkom en religieus moment door de Padre van het Ieperse St-George's Memorial Church, Rev Brian Llewellyn. Later werd een korte geschiedenis (zie hierboven) over Albert John Hunt verteld, gevolgd door een lied door de lokale blazer Eric Bentein. De plechtigheid werd afgesloten door de Ode of Remembrance gevolgd door de Last Post door de lokale blazer Eric Bentein.
The Remembrance started with a welcome and religious moment by the Padre of the Ypres St. George's Memorial Church, Rev Brian Llewellyn. The ceremony ended with the Ode of Remembrance and with the Last Post by Eric Bentein.
