Governor General / Gouverneur Generaal Australië - Ieper - 04/06/2013
On Tuesday, June, 4th, 2013 The Governor-General of Australia, as Chancellor of the Order of Australia, invested Mr Johan Durnez with an Honorary OAM in recognition of his work in preserving and promoting Australia’s World War I military history in Belgium. The Governor-General also presented an Honorary RSL Membership to the former Chairman of the Last Post Association, Mr Guy Gruwez.
Afterwards she attended a wreath-laying ceremony during the Last Post at Menin Gate.
Op dinsdag 4 juni bracht de Governor-General van Australië, Her Excellency the Honourable Quentin Bryce AC CVO, in het kader van een Australische economische missie een kort bezoek aan de stad Ieper. Bij deze gelegenheid overhandigde ze om 17.30 uur in de raadzaal van het stadhuis de “Order of Australia” aan de heer Johan Durnez, leraar aan het VTI te Waregem, en de “RSL Certificate and Badge” aan de heer Guy Gruwez, ere-voorzitter van de Last Post Association.
Om 20.00 uur woonde de Governor-General samen met de leden van de economische missie de Last Post bij.
