Last Post (R. Deltombe) - Ieper - 28/07/2013
Vandaag vond er onverwachts een speciale Last Post plaats. Zoals werd gepland, kwamen er twee koren. Namelijk het Bath Choral Society en de Blackburn Cathedral Choir. Maar onverwachts kwamen er zeven aboriginals, die hier hun spirituele dans kwamen brengen ter ere aan de familieleden die tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog in de Ieperboog sneuvelden, inclusief Private Cyril Spurgeon Rigney. Private Cyril Spurgeon Rigney werd geboren in 1897 als zoon van Benjamin en Rachel Rigney. Hij ging in de Australian Infantry Forces op 26 april 1916 en werd toegewezen tot de 43rd Battalion (Infantry). Hij sneuvelde in de Ieperboog op 3 juli 1917. Zijn lichaam werd nooit terug gevonden. Hij staat vermeld op de Menenpoort op paneel 27. Hij was de grootoom van de oudere dame van de Aboriginals. Tijdens en na de Last Post, brachten de Aboriginals hun spirituele dans zowel onder de Menenpoort als op de vestingen bij het Australische monument. Opmerkelijk was, tijdens het begeven naar de vestingen, passeren de Aboriginals hun overleden grootoom. Tijdens het fotograferen, merkte het mij op dat heel wat mensen het moeilijk had met hun emoties.
Today an unexpectedly special Last Post took place. As planned, there were two choirs. Namely The Bath Choral Society and the Blackburn Cathedral Choir. But suddenly there were seven Australian Aboriginals, who brought their spiritual dance as a honour to the family members who died during the First World War in the Ypres Salient, including Private Cyril Spurgeon Rigney (Service number 2042). Private Cyril Spurgeon Rigney was born in 1897 as the son of Benjamin and Rachel Rigney. He went into the Australian Infantry Forces on April 26, 1916 and was assigned to the 43rd Battalion (Infantry). He was killed in the Ypres Salient on July 3, 1917. His body was never found. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate on panel 27. He was the great-uncle of the elderly lady of the Aboriginals. During and after the Last Post, they brought their spiritual dance both under the Menin Gate and on the ramparts at the Australian memorial. Remarkably, while moving to the ramparts, they passed their deceased uncle.
