Herdenking / Comm. Scottish Memorial (II) - Zonnebeke - 18/08/2013
Op 18 augustus 2013, vond de eerste jaarlijkse herdenking plaats aan het Schots monument op de Frezenberg, tussen de Potijze en Zonnebeke. Het Schots monument herdenkt de Schotse 15de divisie die betrokken werd tijdens de Slag om de Frezenberg, die plaats vond tussen 31 juli en halverwege augustus 1917. Uiteindelijk zal de Schotse 9de Divisie, samen met de Zuid Afrikaanse 1st Brigade, de heuvel veroveren tijdens een bloedig gevecht. De plechtigheid werd bijgewoond door een aantal schepenen van de gemeente Zonnebeke, door mevrouw Elizabeth Sloan van de Schotse regering te Brussel, de Britse adjunct-ambasadeur mevrouw Katrina Johnson en Colonel Myrna Fondse van de Zuid-Afrikaanse ambassade. Ter plaatse bracht Rev Brian Llewellyn de heilige dienst en kwamen de pipebands de Ypres Surrey Pipes & Drums, de Passchendaele 1917 Pipes & Drums en de Flanders Memorial Band hulde aan de Schotse gesneuvelden met de traditionele doedelzak muziek. De plechtigheid begon stipt om 11:00, nadat de bands opkwamen.
On August 18, 2013, the first annual commemoration took place at the Scottish monument on the Frezenberg, between Potijze and Zonnebeke. The Scottish monument commemorates the 15th Scottish division that was hit during the Battle of the Frezenberg, which took place between 31 July and mid-August 1917. The 9th Scottish Division, together with the South African 1st Brigade, conquered the hill during a bloody battle. The ceremony was attended by a delegation of the municipality of Zonnebeke, Mrs Elizabeth Sloan of the Scottish Government in Brussels, the British deputy ambassador Ms. Katrina Johnson and Colonel Myrna Fondse of the South African embassy. Rev Brian Llewellyn brought the holy sacred service and the pipe bands Ypres Surrey Pipes & Drums, the Passchendaele 1917 Pipes & Drums and the Flanders Memorial Band brought a tribute to the fallen Scottish with a traditional Scottish bagpipe music. The ceremony began promptly at 11:00, after the bands come.

Na enkele minuten, stond het monument terug verlaten bij met enkele markeringen van de plechtigheid.
