Gedenkplaat / Memorial plaque JJ Crow VC - Nieuwkerke - 16/04/2011
On Saturday, April, 16th, 2011, a memorial plaque for Captain John James Crowe was inaugurated at Nieuwkerke. The plaque can be found at De Bosgeus.
JJ Crowe, a soldier in the Worcestershire regiment of the British army and a highly successful competition rifleman disarmed during the battle of ‘ Neuve eglise ‘ 21 German soldiers and
saved so the lives of his friends. This heroic act of bravery earned him the Victoria Cross and he also awarded the “Croix de Guerre by the French Government.

About 30 members of the Crowe family attended the ceremony.
Gunter Pertry, Provincie of West-Flanders, was the following speaker. He mentionned the important investments (± 5 million EUR) in the tourist infrastructure with the upcoming period 2014-2018.
Address by Billy Hollis explained how the project started and the history of the Rifle Club's association with JJC. Thanks are given to all those who have made it possible etc. etc. Billy introduces Major John Cotterill.
Major John Cotterill gave the history /connection with the Worcesters and the account of the Battle of Neuve Eglise and the heroic action that won JJC the VC. He was really speaking on behalf of JJC's regiment.
Doreen Pannett - JJC's grand daughter spoke about JJC "The family man" and recalled actual events in her lifetime connected with her grandfather.
Andrea Tingey - JJC's grand daughter spoke about JJC "The family man" and recalls actual events in her lifetime connected with her grandfather.
